JMAC / BARR
ACCESSIBILITY INITIATIVE

MONTH-LONG RESIDENCY
BACK TO INITIATIVE OVERVIEW

RESIDENCY OVERVIEW

The Worcester Cultural Coalition is committed to creating an environment where all artists and creatives are able to share their work in a professional setting. As part of its initiative to support equitable access to use of the Jean McDonough Arts Center, the Worcester Cultural Coalition will support three, one-month long residencies at the venue during the following dates:

June 13 - July 10, 2022
July 18 - August 14, 2022
August 22 - September 17, 2022

These residencies are made possible through a partnership with the Barr Foundation.

The goal of each residency is to engage artists, a group of creatives, or an arts-and-culture organization in creating a site-specific event that activates the Jean McDonough Arts Center and inspires Worcester audiences.

As such, applicants must propose a residency project that makes use of the entire JMAC, including but not limited to the Worcester PopUp and BrickBox Theater, as well as the venue’s streaming and recording equipment.

Preference will be given to applicants whose projects are led by or give voice to historically marginalized or underrepresented groups, such as the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities.

The selected applicants will receive mentorship and support from the JMAC staff; subsidy of venue rental and staffing costs up to $10,000; $15,000 in additional discretionary funding; and exclusive use of the venue for the fourth and final week of each residency period.

The residency project must include at least one development / workshop component that is made available free and open to the public.  The residency project must also conclude with some sort of public event, which may be either ticketed or free.  The main event need not be a completed work, but must be flexible enough to accommodate a mix of in-person and virtual attendees.

Applications are open to all creative disciplines and to all greater-Worcester based individual artists, collectives, and nonprofit organizations in the arts, culture, and humanities fields.  We will not accept applications from religious or political organizations.

Residency applications will be accepted through 5:00pm on April 15th, 2022, and selected applicants will be notified on or around April 29th, 2022.
